Yeah I was just getting home from work when they were doing the countdown on the radio, so I ran inside to watch it. I have heard already that some of the foam that was repaired after the hail storm in Fla. fell off the external tank and hit the shuttle so they are going to have to do a close inspection before the return trip. NASA is really cool but I still don't understand how we can rationalize the money spent on it.

NASA is really cool -- and in some way or another the money comes back -- or will. The tech stuff that we have gotten over the years has probably already returned more than the investment.

It bugs me how the media jumps all over every glitch ( not referring to the previous post). What they have accomplished is incredible -- but by the coverage you'd think that Homer Simpson could have done a better job.

Anyway, I also believe that some day -- long after I'm planted -- we'll need some off world expansion -- which means we have to start looking now.

Sorry about the rant -- I really support space stuff

in about 900 million years or so the universe will have expanded so far that we wont be able to see outside of our galaxy, so we should start looking now.

it would be cool maybe in our lifetime, they can find something that they no is hospitable right away.

NASA's budget is 0.7% of the overall federal budget. It is amazing what they do with that little money, and should be getting more. What gets me is that people don't understand all of that money goes back into the economy. It is not like they are taking this money and shooting it into outer space.

They did suffer some damage. A 4 inch piece of tile or unprotected skin, not sure which yet. They're checking it on the way to the ISS. EVA? I love this stuff.
