I put my heat shield on the header so heat would not be transferred into the starter housing.and the shield is two-piece,about a 1/4'' space between the two, so one shield/plate blocks heat,the air gap carries off heat,the 2nd plate blocks anything left. And as I've mentioned in the telling to other times...the outer plate never got hot enough to cure the header paint. I should have done something with my motormounts though,cause it looks like the heat is cooking the rubber pretty good...
