I changed my cover awhile back as well and went with mobil 1 75w140 LS diff fluid.

I found out that my rear cover was leaking a bit not from rust but from the differential contacting something and raising a lip in the cast metal on the bottom causing the leak.

So after filing down the hill and doing all the work and installing new cover I took the old cover which (was still good) and used it to replace the rusty cover on our 94.5 F250.

 

Looks awesome guys, one more question, how much oil did it take to fill her back up?

 

Also what brand of 75w-140 did you guys use? And if it didn't had the additive already in it what is your recomendations on additives for limited slip.

 

Another question, I see you guys are doing this on different year excursions and 250's but will this also work on a 2000 Ford Excursion? Google research is saying it will but not 100% sure

 

Mobil 1 or Royal Purple, both have the Friction Modifier built in to them and are awesome fluids then keep things running nice and smooth.

Yes it will, whether you have the 10.25 or 10.5 rear. You're good to go. Carry On Wayward Son...

I love saving money and ebay is my #1 place to save right now. Also they have ebay bucks which gives you 1-3% back on all your purchases. All of the items above have more available if anyone else was looking to do this project.

 

Ebay is good to find super deals on the off season too. Almost everything is in there.

 

It is an easy shade-tree mechanic job to change out the fluid and reseal the cover. But very messy till I used the manual pump...forget about just filling with the bottles! Mecdac stopped by with Rudolph and talked FTE for a while.
