Unhappy Turbo lag and no power

I know this has probably been asked before but I have to ask. I have an 05 6.0 and have 81k on it. Never had a problem until about 79k. I took it the dealer and it seemed to be fixed with the reflashes. Well now it seems to have come back. On start up cold or hot, the rpms linger around 400 and the throttle has no response whatsoever. After about 30 secs of so it come up to normal and runs fine. The turbo lag is really getting bad. You can stand on it and nothing for at least 2 to 3 seconds. The EGR has been disconnected for about 6k. After the reflash it felt like a new truck. I plan on taking back in to the dealer but I need to tell them to look for something particular. What would that be? Help!!

fireman_19,

Could be a High pressure oil problem, ie leak, bad check valve etc.

My 07 almost killed me yesterday turning left in traffic.

I mashed the pedal and absolutely nothing happened until I was almost into the driveway.

I really don't think I should have to wait for a 1/4 mile clearance in traffic and not have to power brake it to keep the turbo spooled up.

Try NOT mashing it...just go slow and steady on the go pedal. It'll do what you want...if it doesn't, go visit your dealer.

"Mashing it" I guess is a let bit of an overstatement. Pulling out into an intersection and seeing that other car coming thinking to myself, "Is this thing going to go or what?" What about the start up thing? Thanks. Bryan

Understand ... wait for everything to clear before pulling out into traffic.

And again, it's not like I'm trying to pull the left front wheel off the ground.

Mitch, if your truck is as bad as you make it out to be. (I am not doubting you that it is that bad) I would be taking it to every dealer in the State trying to get it fixed. If one don't get er done, off to the next one. Ford will eventually get tired of paying warranty hours to check for problems with no results and do something about it.

I think you might be right.

Sometimes this thing takes off like wet cat and other times it lays down like a 15 year old coon dog.

If it were predictable, I could deal with it ...

I took my truck into the dealer and they cleaned the EGR and replaced the o-rings. Funny thing, I couldn't tell them it had been unplugged for at least 6k miles. It ran fine for about a hundred miles then I happened to take it out 3 days ago to the local Sears, when I came back out to go home, it wouldn't start. It would turn over but it wouldn't go to idle. It would just die. Had to have it towed back to the dealer and I am waiting to hear from them about what's wrong. Had about 10 trucks in front of me. I think they didn't know what they were doing the first time and just cleaned the EGR because it's a common problem. Bryan

I'm going through a similar situation right now with mine. No power and bad lag. Two egr problems, a new turbo, and now they're saying its because of the fuel pump. I think they're just tossing parts at it.

You haven't driven in Dallas traffic much, have you?

This idea works great when you're on an FM road that's 20 miles from the closest city limit... Not so well when you're trying to negotiate rush hour traffic full of crazed cell-phone junkies in SUV's....

(Mitch and I have had the same observations, in the same traffic, on similar trucks.)

He's not saying you can't accelerate quickly. You just have to do it by slowly moving the pedal to full throttle, rather than slamming it to the floor quickly. I've been learning to do this more lately, as it is very different after driving gas vehicles all my life.

ttt- I am having this issue after 40k mi with no issues whatsoever.

Truck is stock. '05 X PSD

I have an EGR oring set/gasket that I might use and clean it up to see if that helps...

Could that be it??

The biggest bitch is that it's intermittent and wont happen if I take it to the dealer.

Guess I gotta wait until it leaves me stranded.

well i just removed the egr and cleaned it. what a f'n mess. I'm surprised it worked at all.

I hope that was the source of my issues. Time will tell.

If you have 40k+ on your 6.0PSD and do any type of idling or grocery trips where the motor doesn't get hot, then do yourself a favor and clean it out.

Or disconnect!
