Breakin Period?

Please God, let someone tell me there is a break-in period on the new 6.4 Diesel. I just bought a '08 F-450 King Ranch with the 4:88 rear ends. I only have 1000 miles on it, but it doesn't pull anything like my '06 GMC 3/4 ton. That GMC would pull circles around this. I pull a 40' flatbed gooseneck around and I am disgusted with how it pulled. (Powerwise, not the actual ride)

Does anyone know if after so many miles it gets better?

PS. The truck wins in the looks department hands down, but pulling power is more important in my situation.

Me Too

I have a 6.4 with 700 miles and I am wondering about the detuning during the break in period.

Things will become better as the truck loosens up...just keep driving it..you will start to feel the difference soon enough.

Thank You.

Red Rage: For some reason, the F-450's with a manual transmission or a 4:88 rear axle are detuned to 325 HP and 600 lb. ft. of torque. The only reason I can think of is so you can't over-torque anything.

Right, and they are detuned also because of the heavier loads. They wouldnt want people flying around with heavy heavy loads that these trucks are capable of carrying.

Well arent these trucks actually detuned when new?? untill a certain time? I keep hearing all kinds of storys but dont know what the truth is. The other day my buddy was telling me his friend bought a new 08, and they told him the truck will actually program itself to the way he drives it....

I guess until a few thousand miles..to prevent premature wear until everything gets seated in..or so I hear.

Anyone know any specifics on this break in and the detuning? I cant believe people that are buying these trucks arent being told about it....
