Horrible noise when turning steering wheel
While camping this weekend I noticed a horrible noise in the front end of my 2002 powerstroke while turning the steering wheel. sounds like a squeeky door opening and closing, but it is very loud. I listened under the hood but could not pinpoint the noise. Same noise when you turn left or right. Any body got any ideas? I know fords usally make noise in the power steering pump, but this does not sound like that whine. Hope you guys can help. Thanks

If your belt is not loose or badly glazed from slipping, I would pay closer attention to the pump. Take off your serp. belt and run the engine for a
VERY short time and see if the noise is still there. It will pinpoint if it is an accessory item.
Remember, your water pump, alternator etc. is not working with the belt off so do it when the engine is cold and for a very limited time.
Good luck,
Austin

I have the same noise that you are talking about. Mine just started last week, and mine is a 4X4. The only difference on mine is that it only does it turning to the right. I was thinking that it was either ball joints, or sway bar bushings. It definately sounds like a squeaking door in a bad cartoon.(Skooby Doo style) Let me know what you figure out.
