240/300

Does a 240 share the same block as a 300, or with a 200?
Are there any differences between a 1966 and a 1974?
I might buy a 240 motor if I knew that I could later on change it to a 300 if I so desire.
Thanks

I have one of each: a 240 & a 300. There are minor, external differences through the years, but the blocks are the same. It is the crank and rods that are the main internal difference. (The 200 engines are a completely different series.) The main change overall is when fuel injection came in around '87.
