fuel gauge woes-90 Bronco

I went on vacation, parked my 90 Bronco in the driveway for 13 days
with
1/4 tank of fuel remaining, and returned to find that the fuel
gauge now
registers Empty, even after adding 14 gallons. Any suggestions? I
have
stopped and taken-off many times to slosh the gas around in hopes
of
breaking free a "stuck" float in the tank but to no avail. Any
ideas
besides dropping the tank and replacing the float valve? The rest
of
the dash instrument panel is functioning okay. Thanks, RK.

fuel gauge woes-90 Bronco

Welcome to the wonderful world of inoperable fuel guages. You have joined an elite group of people who all have {suffer} a short between the steering wheel and the seat. JUST KIDDING !!!!!!!!! Why would I cut myself down also as I have {suffer} the same problems as every {so it seems} FORD Truck owner with a gas engine.I just can't think if a diesel owner ever posted this problem, but EVERY gas owner has at one time! Now back to your truck, start by checking EVERY fuse, and crawl underneeth for inspection of the harness leading to the tank. You can perform voltage checks while you are under there also.I sure hope you find a burnt fuse or a broken or shorted wire 'cause man, you'll be the first one yet! Every body else usually drives 250 miles and then tanks up{why don't these trucks have tripometers???}.
Good luck,
Phillip

I see so many posts about bad Ford gauges that I'm starting to feel lucky. I've put well over 300k miles on my last 3 Ford trucks and the only problem I've had was a bad oil pressure sending unit.

Im gonna Ditto Joes response. Ive also got over 300k on Ford trucks and Dont know how much on others Fords (Vans & Cars to include my once beloved '69 Mustang Fastback, alas, another story). Never once have I had a gas gauge related failure. Now, I have has to drop the tank for leaky & broke vent hoses in both my trucks & my 91 van, but all the gauges still work like th day I got em.

Guess their must be two of us lucky people out here with working gauges!

I'm on my 2nd full size bronco. I truly love the vehicle, but on each one, the fuel gauge has gone out at about 65K miles. I use the trip odometer. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find resolution to this problem either.

my 82 Bronco's fuel gauge stopped working also. I checked all the ovious to no avail. I had to change my fuel tank do to a hole. When I pulled the sending unit out I noticed the float barrel was full of fuel. Later inspection showed a hole rubbed into the barrel by the support bracket. I figured this was done by vibration as the barrel is made of brass.I would almost believe that is also your problem. Sorry, but after you check everything, if you want your fuel gage to work you will have to dropp your tank. if it comes to this I suggest you locate a new foat barrel first as I don't know if you can get one new. I had a friend have extra ones lying around. YOu may check a junk yard or the ford dealer. good luck
