Old news: Generator starts, but kicks off, or will not start

First thing here is, if the generator runs off of the same fuel as the coach does - it has a sensor that shuts down the generator if you have less than a quarter tank of fuel - BE IT DIESEL OR GASOLINE.

It just will not go there.

The reasoning is that you don't want to wake up and find that your genny has quit from lack of fuel AND YOU ALSO have no fuel for your engine to get out of there.....

Make sense?

Second scenario - LOW BATTERY.

1) Your Gen fires off.
2) The gen powers your convertor.
3) The convertor applies 12 volts to the batteries.

-BUT!-

The gen first looks to see if there are 12 volts at the COACH battery - if there isn't, it won't stay online.

Simple way to make a forced go here is to hold down AUX START or battery BOOST while starting the gen. A lot of times this will give you enough for the convertor to kick on (there is a time delay) and begin charging the batteries so that the generator controller sees 12 volts there....

Main thing is the gen won't stay on without 12V, so you may have to fool it using the chassis battery.

I hope this gets someone out of a STUCK situation, and does not cause one....

PS: I know a lot of ways to overide the fault logic in these, but the average camper just doesn't WANT to know them. They could get you in trouble used wrongly.
