Anti-theft keys?

I just got one key with my "new to me" 2001 superduty. I had one cut at the hardware store the other day but I haven't used it because the person who made the key thought the factory Ford key might have the anti-theft chip in it. Does it?

Not all of the trucks have the PATS. In 01 I thought it was limited to the Ex's

If you do you will have the following:
THEFT indicator located in the instrument cluster (inside the tach below the "3")
encoded ignition key
transceiver module surrounding the ignition key lock cylinder
PATS control module located under the instrument panel on the center support

Cut Keys work fine in my 01.

Just try the Key. If its the big key, which it shouldn't be, but if it is. It won't work. It will only open the door. This is the Pats key that Amiller described. The Pats key has a very small access looking panel on the bottom of the key. If it's the smaller design key, it will work. Did yah get 2 key Fabs too? If you didn't let me know. I'll send yah one. I think the dealership gets about $30.00 for these... Take Care.Country

big key=chip, little=no chip

i have yet to see a 7.3 with a chipped key that wasn't aftermarket. And you can tell those are aftermarket right away.

My 2000 Ranger had the chip in the key. We were bored one day at work, so we X-rayed it to see what was in there.

My '02 '250 has a small key though...

Yup... That'd be them...

If you have the one on the right, you're good to go...

WOW! Thanks for all the replies. I've got the small key (non-PATS). I picked up another remote transmitter off of ebay for $19 and got it programmed, so it looks like I'm all set.

Thanks again,

TS
