yet another toy ps box Q.

Just talked to a friend who's dad has an '87 toy. 4x4 parts truck. I understand I need a 79-84 box for my F1. Now are the newer boxes the same size or shape? I just hope to use it for finding the proper spot to set my engine, until I find the right box. But, I suppose the 87 couldn't work, by chance, could it? I haven't visually seen it yet.

From what I remember its a completely different box. Late 85 Toyota went to independant front suspension on their 4x4's and changed to cross steering.

Do a google search on it and you should probably come up with several sites with pics from the 4x4 world

The later boxes were these long skinny things, if it's a small compact box you're go to go.
There is a picture of the right box in the tech article here:

yup, thanks.

In looking at walston's pic (thanks Mr. Walston) of the MF bracket,
I assume the bottom flat rests on the lower frame flange, which would line up the bolt holes to be drilled on an F1 frame? Also, does anyone have a measurement offhand to how much wider the Toy. box is? (inboard)
Maybe I can just find a matching piece of angle iron to lay over the stock box to set my dimensions for engine placement.

OK, the bottom flat (lazy V) sits even then, thanks again.

Havi,

I think I have a couple of drawings of the 2 styles of toyo ps brackets in one of my gallerys. I think its in my "steering details" gallery.

the bracket sits like a "lazy" V in the frame on the small flat at the point of the V. The rear leg of the V is parallel to the column and is the part the box mounts on. The mount when used on the 53-56 matches up with the 3 holes for the stock box. I'll try to remember to measure my box and get a picture of the box and mount. I currently have the fender off on that side.

I just got done looking at Bobby's gallery. He uses the same size flatbar I have at work. I noticed it's mounted up front, too. I'll check out 1949f1's next. And I just got an email from a fella (sellin me an 88 turbo coupe) who happens to have a flathead 8ba for sale, too. What an exciting, yet confusing, 15 minutes this was.
