I'm probably not the best source for information as this is my first Bronco & 4WD vehicle. However, I'll try and help by sharing what I've experienced so far.

I couldn't find the necessary parts in southern Colorado, so I ordered them from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard. I think his shipping prices are expensive, but it was my best alternative under the circumstances. Here's what I ordered:

item name price quantity total
CV Dust Shield 1990-96 Bronco 4.00 1 4.00
CV Head Ball and Spring 1990-96 14.00 1 14.00

Subtotal: $18.00
Shipping: $9.61
Grand Total: $27.61

I just ordered last Saturday, so hopefully the parts will be here by the end of the week.

The centering ball is inside the centering socket yoke of the double cardan joint (the transfer case end of the driveshaft) and contains needle bearings that are similar to those found in the u-joints. The centering socket mates with a stud on the driveshaft end yoke.

The new ball will have the needle bearings in it. The kit will contain the ball, a spring, and a seal. I also ordered a dust cap as mine was starting to deteriorate. I think some refer to the dust cap as a "slinger", but that's not how JBG has it listed.

Anyway, my driveshaft is completely disassembled waiting for the parts. From what I've read from others, it is possible that the stud is worn to a point that replacing the ball will not help. I can't really tell by looking at it, but I'm going to put it back together with the new ball and see what happens.

If it doesn't last, I'll consider having the driveshaft rebuilt or buying a new driveshaft.

Hope this helps.
