I don't care what the manufacturers tow ratings are. 8,500 pounds is too much for ANY half ton pickup to handle.
Spot on

Now about the trucks...sorry but that Chevy is butt ugly ....next ugly..(nice English, huh) is the Yotota then the Ford

Ya'll dont have to worry about the yota's, I just read an article that yota's wont try
to crack into the 3/4 ton and bigger rigs because they think the top three starting
with ford have that part of the market well in hand. And as far as the 1/2 ton trucks
yota's wont take over the f150 so dodge esspecially chevy watch out.

Toyota only has plant capacity to build 300,000 Tundras a year, so Ford and Chevrolet are safe. GMC, Dodge and Titan are fair game. Regardless, sales of Tundras will draw sales away from all the other trucks, so no one is really safe.

381hp, 401 torque, better resale value, better trade in value, some big brakes.

crappy in your opinion.

If you like your current truck, DON"T drive a properly equipped Toyota. If you do drive one, don't drive your truck to the dealership to drive the Toyota. Once you get out of the Toyota and back into your truck, it will feel slow and underpowered. When you're sitting behind the wheel of the Tundra, the gas pedal and brake pedal makes you forget how it looks.

When I bought my F-150, the Tundra was simply a V8 version of the T-100 I had but times have changed.

In another thread here, it's being reported that Tundra's are breaking camshafts on the 5.7.

It does have more power, and better brakes... but traditionally (and that is all we have to go off for the new model). Pickups produced by the so-called "big 3" have held resale just as well as ones produced by Toyota/Nissan... in fact some of Dodge's, Ford's and GM's truck resale is much better than that of Toyota's/Nissan's
(admittedly in market segments that Toyota and Nissan don't compete... but nonetheless)

Even though I kind of doubt your T-100/old Tundra analogies (My T-100 has a TINY cab) I 100% agree with you about the current Tundra.

However, I also see the other side of the equation.....but it concerns ALL 1/2 ton trucks......if a 1/2 ton is within a few $thousand of a FULLY loaded 3/4 ton; where do you draw the line???

I don't think I'll spend 40K on a new truck anytime soon, but if both the Dmax and Tundra were the same price......I think I'd lean toward the bigger truck.
(or it'd be a tough decision......the Tundra is a joy to drive)

(but that goes the same for a 150 vs a 3/4 ton truck also)

Mmmm......MAYBE in the fledgling 1/2 ton market you're correct....The previous Tundra was NOT competition to the domestics.

But you cannot compare the small pick up segment...not only do Tacos command more $$$ than Rangers, they sell like popcorn at a movie.

I know it's redundant, but I'm constantly HARRASSED about selling my POS 4cyl T-100.

I assume you are talking about second hand?
If so... compare the percentages... Mostly the Rangers sell for a lot less second hand because they cost a whole lot less in the first place.

Talkin' used......and you're correct about initial cost, but it AMAZES me that used Toys can still fetch more than NEW Rangers.

It's almost like the Diesel vs gasser re-sale argument.....regardless of price difference, it's much easier to sell the oil burner.
