Glue Type to use On Roll top door

Here's the deal folks.
Since its release my Roll Top Box set of Beatles CD's has slowly deteriorated.
The slats that were glued to the tape have since seperated and become useless.
Now I can take the box apart and make it new again but..My Dilemna ?

What glue to use on the tape to slats ?

I have:
Yellow 3M household glue that stinks so high hog heaven
Black 3M weather-stripping glue
Carpenter's glue (white and yellow)
Craft glue in bottle and spray can
Paper glue
Hot glue stick system
Leather Glue
PVC Glue (solvent)
ABS Glue (solvent)

Remembering these are 1/2 wide slats and would have to be glued and dried in a flat laying down position on 3 seperate pieces of Bookbinding type tape then lifter and inserted into the tracks of each end of the cabinet.

Plus, I want this to last longer then the original craft's person made it lst.

What is your suggestion of Glue to use.

I can supply photos if needed.

Nice box Dennis.

Get your hands on some Loctite 406. Will stick like a barnacle in a glue factory.

I would recommend contact cement.

Barge contact cement is an excellent product.

In that case

Pretty bad stuff right here. I have used it before on the cheap chairs at work that the legs seem to keep coming apart on, still holding even with our fat butts sitting in them and sliding across the floor and whatnot.

Dennis, I would suggest replacing the book binding tape with a sheet of silk. It is very thin and very strong and will increase your glue surface area a great deal. I would glue it in place with a urethane glue, applied very sparingly on the wood surface. (I think Bigdaddy's gorilla glue is a urethane. It can be very messy if you use too much.)

According to the MSDS it is polyurethane. The directions it says to use a very little bit and I used what I thought was appropriate on one application and it expanded and made the very big mess you were talking about.

Right. But it is really strong once it has dried.

If the leather glue is the type used for shoe repair, it seems to be quite good for
flexible repairs, but it needs to cure for about 3 days. (until the smell goes about 3/4
away) Any sooner and it can seperate. If you get contact cement between the
slats, that can be a mess. The leather cements I speak of are either "Shoe Goo"
or "Goop". Seeps can be wiped off with lighter fluid, before fully cured.
