The Unofficial Summer 2007 Gas Rant

What's a guy to do? My fill up costs have gone up $20 in the past couple weeks. I am still commuting almost daily from Omaha to Dakota City, man does it hurt. The latest price here in the Sioux City area is around $3.29, and Omaha seems to be about the same. I usually stop in Council Bluffs, just to save a couple cents per gallon.

Maybe if the prices keep going up, it will be cheaper for me to quit my job and sit at home all day!

TwelveAlpha is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Start chargin a fuel surcharge!
I'm with ya. I had someone who wanted me to put an addition of for them 45 minutes away. I said here's the price, here's the fuel charge. But it stinks. I dont like doing that, but I cant have it falling out of my pocket either. I figure I average at least a hundred bucks a week on fuel as it is. Thats certainly up. I can go look back at 04 and it was only about $3K in fuel for the whole year.
Listen to me. I'm trained. I said only. Hows it feel to know that Shell and BP have you right where they want ya and theres not much you can realistically do about it?

What really irritates me is that the oil companies say their profits are justified, they need the money to find more oil. Of course, trying to ignore the 400 million dollare retirement plans for the senior execs is hard to ignore! I don't mind a company making a profit, but this is stupid. Crazy thing is, it's cheaper for me to drive my F-250 than it is for me to drive the F-150 with the 4.6!!!! I really wish the goverment would step in and say enough is enough, but they are all being payed off by the oil companies. Gotta keep their reelection funds full!! So, I think we're pretty much stuck, since we all have to use gas. Rob, this must reallly suck for you! I hope that Ranger gets better gas mileage than your F-150 did! At least that would be a little less painful!

Pretty funny Mark! Maybe you could just unbolt the cab from that Lariat you have and stick it on a buggy frame. That would be real cool!

I'm getting about 19 on the highway... a little better than the F150, but not that great. I saw a sticker price on an 07 Ram 1500 4x4 with the small v-8 (4.7 I think, not the hemi) and a 6 spd manual. It claims 21 on the highway. If the incentives get hot enough this summer to eat the loss in my Ranger, I might be tempted.

Wow.......$3.29!!! Last time I was in town it was $3.39 here!!! I'm sure it's changed some since then because that was a few days ago (last Fri or Sat). It's far more than rediculus!!!! My 4.6 F-150 gets 13 mpg, my 69 gets about half that!!!! Remember when we thought $1.50 was high? That was only about 5 years ago. Where was it 10 years ago........$.99? Around here diesel is about $2.85........I know my brother has been driving his Dudge Cuma-part more than his 89 F-250 lately!!!! Well I guess that's my rant - for now. I'm sure I'll have something more to say later!!!!

-Jake

The scary thing is - I'm almost 18.......where will gas prices go in my lifetime?

Hey, now! Our fearless leader can't be cruising around in no Dudge! Come on, now Rob! What you need is a nice, big F-250! You know, a nice 6.0, or maybe even the new 6.4. Okay, so yeah, they don't give them away. Details, details! But, hey, gear them right, and you can smoke down around 21-22 mpg on the highway, and not lose your dignity (yes, I am joking Rob-mans gotta do what a mans gotta do!)

Don't worry, I'll give you guys some warning if I think I'm gonna do something crazy... you can set up an 'intervention' or something!

Filled up in Council Bluffs this morning for $3.17, what a deal.

Yeah, up here it's about 3.28.

My 05 F150 is due on it's lease in a couple months and I'm going to give it back. I kinda planned on it anyway when I leased it, but it really don't hurt my feelings too bad. It only gets between 14-16 if I'm lucky. I dont drive everyday, maybe 2 or 3 times a week, but it still adds up when I'm making a vehicle payment and insurance. So, I'm going to be driving my 97 Dakota until it dies or until my wife has our first child which hopefully is in the next year or two. Dakota is very small and holds only two people. I'd then have to get something different. When my 77 F250 is built it won't even register a MPG because of the motor, but then that's going to be my toy and won't be driven that much.

I am looking forward to the F150 Diesel when it comes out. I'll be curious to see how it does. Not that I would get one, but at least the option will be there.

Yes, Fuel prices stink and there is nothing we can do about it. What really sucks, is people are actually going to start having to make payments on their gas.

I have about 250 miles on my 428 and it is getting 10.6 MPG!! I was shocked. Ya sure the power stroke gets better milage but its not as much fun or quick.
