Oil Separators

Hello fellow L tamers. I am looking into oil separators. I would like to hear feedback on what you all are using, how well it seems to be working, and where you purchased/ how much.

Thanks

Ps. how do you turn on spell check?

I ordered a Moto Blue seperator from RPM last year and it is pure junk. Could be why they don't sell them anymore, Huh? LOL

I bought one from e-bay as well, have not put it on yet, and might not ever. seems to be a low flow unit, not what I had in mind. I'll probably go to Harbor Freight and get a bigger one. Then there is a question of the T fitting and the 3rd line I think goes to the ???

No offense, but you could have saved yourself about $22 on this. There's a write up in another L forum giving you the exact part numbers and instructions to make this unit yourself. All you would have to purchase is the parts.

I have the Moto Blue so they did start reselling it (and hopefully re-engineered it if it was crap before). I just purchased it a couple of weeks ago and have not yet installed it. The plan is to install it once I get the time to do the IC cleaning and get all of the oil out of my intake.

Did you have to wait on back order for the RPM one? How much was it? Please write back once you install.
Thanks

I paid $40 on their web site and there was about a one(1) week back order on them. I only bought it because it appears to be a closed system. The DYI that I came accross was cheaper and simple to install, but I didn't want to be emptying the excess oil that collects in the unit all the time. I know someone who actually has the DYI one and he has to empty it every time he fills the gas tank according to him. NOT what I wanted to do. So I decided to give the Moto Blue one a shot. I'll let you know once I get it installed.

Ok I'll talk to myself, I installed the e-bay oil separator, and it seems to be working fine, but then there is a question of what to do with the "other" line that goes to the back of the engine somewhere ? So I decided to stick a hose on it and "vent" it to atmosphere. That was 2 days ago, today I got a SES light on my way to work, with a code PO174 .
(bank 2 too lean ) Should I cap this line ? ( I think I will ) Where and what does it go/do?

here's some stuff I got from NLOC: (the pics they had came up missing )
I just got done installing the L&S Oil Separator. I took some pics and thought I would throw a HOW TO together for people who are thinking about getting one. Seems like a pretty well put together kit...

Here is what all comes with the L&S Kit...

The first step is to remove the old PCV System. I had an oil separator in place of the vertical tube, but you get the idea. Leave the tube that goes to the lower intake in place...

The next step is to cap off the tube that runs back behind the supercharger. This tube goes to the lower intake. Here are some before and after pics. Notice the tie-wrap around the cap. This is to keep the cap from blowing off during high boost.

The L&S kit isn't like the more common, lower cost oil seps.

You said you got one from ebay, is it an L&S oil sep?

Either way, the L employs a positive crankcase ventilation setup (PCV), so the common mod of popping on valve cover filters (basically venting to the atmosphere like you did) can be done, but your tune needs to be adjusted for this to keep from throwing an SES/check engine light.

This is the more common oil sep setup.

You have to unscrew the reservoir and empty the oil every-so-often.

The L&S kit is self contained and drains back in via the valve cover.

Thanks for the reply, Yeah I have the e-bay filter bowl type. I hooked it up from the PCV to the upper plenum, no problemo. there was a "T" in the original line which was discarded, but the "other" line apparently goes back behind to the lower intake. first I vented that line, but got the light and PO174. I also noticed that the end of my new line was melted. So I capped it off and have not driven it . I did start it, runs fine, no light yet.

That line goes to the bottom, back, lower intake. It is the start of the PVC system on the passenger side of the truck.

As far as my separator goes.. You can get every thing you need at any hard ware store that sell oil/air separators for air compressors. I have 0 dollars in mine. (I had one laying around.) Just put it in line. The line that goes to the top of the upper intake. And I do not have to empty mine that often.
