J_E_Summit is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE. J_E_Summit is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
I am a Junior Civil Technologist with a municipal engeneering consultant. I spend winters in the office doing design work, and then all summer (April-November) out in the field doing surveying and inspections. I drive my own truck and get mileage paid, but I break even at best with the mileage rate being so low.

cool man. but having to use your own vehicle is B.S. are they going to fix it when you have breakdown? nope! my wife did the flagging thing for about
4 months and the gas cost us more than her pay check!
trying to claim gas and milage is next to impossible! irs won't let you claim that.

The not making money part includes a generous allowance for wear and tear along with depreciation.

I use my truck for my job down at school all the time like when we go to get hay or new fencing. If it breaks because of something work related they will pay to have it fixed, and when ever i need to fix something i can use there shop which is sweet!

Well this thread has certainly turned into a big one!!! Recently, I have decided not to paint cars because a paint booth etc etc is big bucks. Too much of a hassle. So I just do metalwork and panel "smoothing" with fillers that pertain to bodywork. Other than that, all I will be doing is electrical & mechanical repairs, modifications and upgrades like usual with the automotive world, small diesel, big diesel & gasoline rigs. I have been getting into the racing/performance world pretty darn heavy in the past year or so. I can't resist the v8 rumble at the race track!! I am the pit chief/builder for my sister at the local tracks. Going for the number one spot a couple times this coming season hopefully.I hope the 2009 racing season will be alright. That is if something else does not eat the money up first.

I'm an aircraft mechanic for the U.S. Air Force. My job is cool. I'm getting sick of the deployments though. 12 years in, 8 to go!

I work as a farmhand mostly, do some bladesmithing and gunsmithing in between. Currently I am trying to get a job at the local sporting goods store. (yep, at the gun counter)
