1974 F100 360 Auto. Front or Rear sump?

Should my 74 360 have a front or rear sump? I changed the oil today and the drain plug drains straight down on the i-beam for the left wheel. Seemed like something they would have thought about at the factory. But on the same note, the oil filter drains down on the frame.
Yes I made a trough for it to drain over to the drain pan, but it seems like something is wrong here.

2 wheel drive should have a front sump, and I THINK the drainplug should be in the back of it, not to the side. Might have a car pan on it.

I had that problem when I swapped a 460 in. Thought of everything but the drainplug location, which rested directly ON the crossmember.

Yes 4X2. Thanks, I thought it was odd to have the sump drain in a place where there wasnt any clearance.

We might to have to add the sump thing on the FAQ.

All of them has a rear sump, drain plug on the rear. It makes a messy oil change on 2wds because the crossmember is directly below the drain plug.

Here is the clearance on a 78 4x2 with Front sump 429/460.
Because this came from a car, you can see what I did to alleviate the oil drain problem.

This shows the 4x2 frame and cross-members

This shows the location of the 4x4 frame cross-members ..
