temp sending unit, where is it

i have an 89 fullsize ford bronco w/4.9 inline six, my temp guage has stopped working, i need to ground the sending unit wire, to rull out a bad temp guage, hopefully its only the sending unit itself, but i have run into a bit of a snag, the illustration in my chiltons shows the location of this unit for a 4.9, but the illustration is for a v-8, (one of those quality control issues) can someone please point me in the right direction and tell me where the sending unit is located, thank you, don

temp sending unit, where is it

i really appreciate the tip, atleast it narrows it down to the area below the intake on the drivers side, but after looking at this area i am still no closer to locating it, can you or anyone else please be more specific as to its EXACT location, i really appreciate your help and anyone else that can help me with this problem, and again, thank you, don

temp sending unit, where is it

yo,
I have a Haynes Manual..a cheapie from pep Boys...and I have 78 and 96 Broncos with 351 and 302, so I can only offer you advice from the diagram in the Haynes. It shows the sensor an inch below the intake manifold and about an inch from the front of the block, on the driver's side. Looks like the only sensor there with a single wire. Good luck, Al

I know the post is dated however, on my ‘84 carbureted 300 ci,, temp sending unit on passenger side rear of engine under manifold.
FYI, 6 volt aficionados, flathead sending unit in that 300 inline six required household galvanized steel pipe “adapter”. Works great, so far

Correct
Those 4.9s have the sender on the rear of the head on the passenger side
Here is a pic showing the location on an older carbureted 300-6

I had a 95 with a 4.9 (gone to a relative) I think it was right below the valve cover IIRR (above the manifolds)
