6.0 Powerstroke Black Smoke

While towing my RV trailer I noticed That my my 6.0 Powerstroke blows a lot of black smoke.
Whenever I accelerate it smokes it is much much worst.
Is this normal, or do I have a problem.

Wink try this . . .

It is typical to see this with the motor under load. Do you use an additive, like Dieselkleen? This will aid tremendously in cleaning up the soot from the motor under load.

Well that depends. What is the year of your truck, how many miles are on it and is it modified in any way?

Also is the smoke worse now than it has been in the pasted?

With the new ULSD fuel black smoke has been reduced enormously. I can get a light grey haze with hard excelleration under load but don't get the dark black smoke i did with LSD fuel.

You could be having a couple of problems. Restricted, clogged air intake. Check the filter minder under the hood.
EGR valve could be sticking or the ICP sensor could be acting up.

Are there any other symptoms other than black smoke (ie loss of power, rough running, decrease in gas mileage)?

You are lucky if you can still get black smoke on a stock motor that is running properly. I think it looks awesome. Like was said before, ULSD has made it almost non existant on a stock motor

Came on here to ask the same question. Bear with me it's my first diesel.

Mine is a new bone stock 07 PSD with 1100 miles on it and going up a good incline with around 2400 rpms (no trailer) i noticed a haze when looking through the rear view mirror. The side of the truck above the exhaust is smoky.

Normal?

Had a Ford dealer look for the problem. Not only smoking a lot but, loss of power
when under a load. Found EGR valve stuck open. Cleaned it but that did not solve problem. Replaced EGR and everything works fine.
