Brakes

Heres the problem, however simple it may be to someone else, I'm lost. When I first start my 1993 Bronco (351), after its been sitting for awhile, when I hit the brakes they sqeal. Not only do they sqeal, but the slightest pressure on the brakes, cause the tires to lock up. After running awhile everything works fine....Any suggestions would be appresiated.

It's a pretty normal problem. Mine does it too. There are little 1/4" size holes or indentations on the brake pads. They fill with brake dust or anything else that can get in them. After they warm up or you use your brakes once or twice it goes away. Next time you get new pads or are in the autoparts store take a look at the pads.

Yea-but when I say awile, I just mean longer than a day. I have a company car, so the Bronco doesnt get driven but once or twice a week. The abrupt braking is really a nuissance. I'll check the brakes (pads etc...) this weekend.
Thanks for the input.

There's a TSB (93-4-6) that might apply to your brake problem - my '93 does the same...

The gist of the TSB is that hot and humid environments cause the rear brake linings to grab when cold.

The fix is the replace the rear brake shoes with a set that isn't as sensitive (absorbent?) to humidity.

Good luck.
