How to replace servo in transmission
1991 Ranger 3.0 187,000 miles 2WD
I need some advice on how to replace the servo thats leaking fluid from my A4LD transmission. Looks as if only one of the two servos is leaking, the one that is closet to the front. Would a leaky servo cause OD not to engage?
I can drive without OD, but i can't drive with a fluid-spewing transmission.
Can the servo be replaced without removing the trans? Is this a DIY project?

The front servo is the od servo so yes the leak could have much to do with a no od condition. I have changed the servo piston and the cover seals in the car, it is a little difficult and should be attempted only when the transmission and catalist are cold. Getting the snap ring out is the difficult part. Find a way to push and hold the servo cover into the bore a little and you should be able to remove the snap ring and then work the cover out.
