Vaccum Line Hook-up Help Please

The dumb..... previous owner messed all of the vaccum lines up on my 82 f250 with 351. I have a dual diaphram distributer. Right now, inner and outer port on the distributer is connected to itself so that means no vaccum advance. I know I need to buy a new three port thing that goes on top of the water neck. There isn't one right now, he broke it off. Also, I think the vaccum thing for the carburator is running the transmission and temp control (heating the cab or cooling it). The line from the carb goes first to a "T" which goes to the top of the back valve cover and the other goes to a 3 port on top of the fire wall and under the back of the hood. From there, one goes to the tranny and one goes to another "T". From there, one goes inside the cab and the other goes to that big round black ball on the passenger inner fender. I really need some help hooking this thing back up. I can get a pic of it if you need.

If the passenger valve cover has a sticker on it..get the info from it and post it here.

autozone.com has a lot of vacuum/emissions diagrams in their repair info/vehicle repair guides section. that's what helped me correct the mess in my 83 F100. check it out.

The "3-port" tee on the firewall is hooked up right. The distributor line should run to the middle port on the VCV valve (3 port thing) on the engine side of the thermostat. the other two ports should run to the E port on the carb (bottom right as you look at the engine from the radiator). The E port should supply vacuum to the distributor and EGR valve. The other VCV valve on the radiator side of the thermostat runs the air bypass valve on the air cleaner. There will be various sizes of vacuum restrictors in the lines, which the emissions diagrams will show you.

First off, thanks for your help. Second I have no clue what you are talking about. There is no emissions control on this thing or at least not any more. The guy ripped it all off. The air breather is not original and there is no ports on it. I think the water neck was only made for the one tree. There is only one vaccum port on the bottom of the carb. I think that goes to the tree on the water neck. I think a engine vaccum also goes to the tree. I think then the last hole is for the front distributer hole. I believe the secondary distributer port goes to a engine vaccum line. What line goes to the tree thing that is on the fire wall? I think that thing runs the tranny, temp control in the cab, and that round ball mounted on the fender. The carburater isn't supposed to run the trans and temp stuff is it? Tell me if this all sounds right or not. Thanks

PS- There is an electric choke that is not hooked up. Do I just run a possitive wire that is keyed and a negative wire?

Sleepyjoe.

I have more emissions diagrams than Autozone has.

The thing is..there are so many to choose from.

There isn't just one...

for the 302 there are 23 different routings.

It all depends on Calibration code which I asked for.

We're trying to find out which one his has then I'll send it to him.

Plus, I want to know of it is a 351M or really a 351W.

I don't think the 82's got Windsors yet.

It is a 351 Windsor. Sorry that that code isn't there. It also isn't a stock carb. It has a Carter 4barrel with a Edelbrock intake.

I'll give you a generic diagram to get you started.

EDIT:

This one is for a 460.

the premise is the same but after reading more and finding out you don't have a stock setup anymore..it should help.

The distributor vacuum line needs ported vacuum from the carb

The booster and transmission need it from the Vacuum tree at the rear of the engine.

I believe the electric choke (don't know your carb) is a single wire running from the output of the alternator. It is grounded already. You just have to supply the 12v.

Before you hook straight 12 volts to your choke, make SURE it takes 12 volts.

Most use the STATOR wire from the alternator to supply,IIRC,8volts.

Thanks for the diagram.

I know that the primary diaphram (Front port) of the distributer needs to be hooked up to the carb thru the tree on the water neck also suppled with a main vac line.

Questions:

1. Where does the secondary diaphram on the distributer hookup to?

2. Shouldn't the tree on the firewall be hooked up to a main vac? (This is where the line goes for the tranny, temp control, and that black ball, and also the crankcase vent)

3. Just double ckecking, the booster should be hooked up to the tree on the back of the engine, right?

4. This is a just wanting to know question, how could the trans shift by just running off the carb vac? That is how he had it hooked up.

The RETARD timing port doesn't really need to be hooked up.

Vacuum tree sources the:
Transmission
Brake booster
A/C

Carb Ported vacuum sources the distributor.

You can see an illustration of an engine here.
Again, this is from a late 70's engine but the concept is the same.

Your setup is not original, so forget trying to hook it up original. You should have one special vacuum port of the carb, and that is the one that only has vacuum when you rev the engine. Find this port and hook it to the front port on the distributor.

All the other ports are going to be manifold vacuum that have vacuum all the time the engine is running. You will need to hook up the PCV valve, the manifold on the firewall, and the brake booster.

Forget all the other switches and the egr stuff.

Thanks for your guys help. I am thinking of just giving it to my mom to trade it in on a better car for her. I am sick and tired of working on it. The guy I bought it from totally lied to me about some major issues with the truck. I think the guy at the auto lot said we could trade it in for $1500 which is really good since we paid $1700 for it. I know, I was dumb. I am gonna get me a 92 F150 2wd with a 300 6cyl with a 4 speed with overdrive.
