tell me about insurance...

I wrecked my new motorcycle tonight... cause I'm an idiot... but I need some guidance...

I have full coverage, less the $500 deductible... I have no idea what its gonna take to fix it... but how should I proceed with the insurance? I've never had to deal with this before...

First off, I hope your'e ok! Secondly, that's why Debbie won't let me have a motorcycle. She can forsee the inevitable future if I got one, only I'd be in a full body cast telling my friends and family, "I swear I thought I did hit the brakes......"

And fordfan428 is right. All you have to do is let your insurance company know what you did and tell them your'e going to go get some estimates. I *think* Beartooth Harley has a body shop so you can take it there. Sometimes the bike shops have paint codes that are only for bikes and the body shops don't access to them.

How'd it happen?

How much damage to the bike?.....Are you required to report the wreck to your insurance company?.....I know that here in NC, if the damage (to all vehicles involved) exceeds $1,000.00, or there are any injuries, you are required by law to report the collision to the appropriate police agency (Highway Patrol, Sheriff's Office, Police).......They will then do a formal collision report with an incident number........Then call your insurance company and give them the police report number and tell them what happened and they'll take it from there.......

well, its not that much damage... handlebars, gas tank, front fender... the tank wasn't punctured, so its not required to be replaced... I was just going to fix the thing myself...

Well if that's the case, stop in at my work at Mountain PBE and see Joe or Ward. Those guys can get you anything you'll need to fix your Hog. Best thing is, if you don't get it fixed at a shop, no need to involve insurance. My mom's an insurance agent with 29 years experience and I can ask her what you do or don't need to do.
