Searching for t5 trans.
Hi everyone
I am looking for a t5 transmition to put in my 53 flathead. Ideally I am looking for a world class t5 with an electronic speedo sender from an s10. Does anyone know what years are best to search for or any other thinks I should consider?
Thanks in advance
Rick

Like I said, I'm no where near well versed on this.

I think I read somewhere that the S10 went to the World Class in 93 but they used the Ford bolt pattern. I think my source for this info is wrong because the auto wreckers around here list a different 5 speed in the S10 for these years. I think I will have to use a Non World Class transmittion as I am using my flathead. After the modifications I am planning for the flattie, I expect to only get between 160 and 180 hp. A Non World Class should be plenty strong enough for this setup. In the future, I can always find a world class from a Camaro or Mustang and swap out the tail housing and top cover containing the shift linkage from the S10 to the World Class. This is a direct swap with some minor modifications.

Rick, there's also lots of info on the jalopyjournal dot com. Go to the Hamb and do a search. It may not return anything if you just put in t5, so try tremec. The s10 behind a flatty is a popular swap. If you get the 4.3 v6 t5 it'll work fine, and the aftermarket has the parts to make it work. The s10 tail shaft housing places the shifter slightly to the rear of the stock tranny, the camaro version places the shifter under the front edge of the bench seat. There are also gear ratio differences between the trannys. The s10 has a lower first gear than the camaro. In several of the sites about t5's, you'll see a chart with tag numbers. Make sure you print that, and use it to id any t5 you're looking at. These trannys were used in a variety of cars and trucks, and some aren't appropriate for your use. Do some reading, then post again. I've installed a camaro t5 in my 48, with the rear mounted shifter, and built a remote linkage to place the shifter where I wanted it. I haven't posted pics yet, but I will.
