I am doing a SAS in my 1988 FSB I have a D44 and I am pretty sure its from a 1979 F-150. I am going to rebuild it but my first question is that I am not sure if it is a Reverse Cut D44, how do I tell. Also how can I tell for sure if its a 79' f-150 D44.
there will be a series of numbers stamped into the drivers side axle tube near the pumpkin if you get those numbers you can cross referance it. someone has a chart maybe mil1ion or numberdummy
Well I found only 1 number on the drivers side axle tube 9135c. I found another on the pumpkin that says either 820072R or 620072R. The is another number on the pumpkin 44-8F I hope someone can make sense of these numbers

The 620072R isn't listed in any parts catalog I have. Front axles (1973/89) have numbers that begin with either 60xxxx or 61xxxx, but nothing 62xxxx. (I also checked the rear Dana 6 numbers, nothing there either)
Be careful...Jeep and Nissan both use Dana 44's, as do other car and truck manufacturers.
its a front axle and im pretty sure its a ford my friend pulled it out of an old f-150 though he didnt remember what year model and the steering that it has matches a 1979 f-150 front axle.
The 1978/79 Bronco's use 610xxx for front axle ID numbers. While the photo of the Dana 44 posted looks Fordish, it looks almost identical to the Dana 44's used in Nissan Titans, which use 44's front and rear.
Usually all high pinion D44s or 60s are reverse rotation, the low pinion axles are standard rotation. It looks like you have a high pinion, so it would be reverse cut.
