When using metal flake should i stick with a metal flake that is the same color as the paint? painting w/ red and was thinking either a black or silver flake but wasn't sure.
It depends on the look you are going for. I painted my vw dunebuggy using HOK red flake. I went over a red base and loaded on the flake. You can't see anything but flake in it. I did a nova the same way, red base then red flake, except I went lighter on the flake. It wasn't noticable until the light hit it right. Then the flake came alive. If you use a contrasting color flake, it might look spotty until the light hits the flake just right to make it pop.
Do a different color flake than the paint. Depending on the size of flake of course, but I like more flake. If the flake is large, too much is a bad thing, won't look as good. Pretty much goes for all sizes, but especially with the really big flakes.
