I would imagine that if you wire it up to kill the running lights on the truck it will kill the trailer as well.

i'm pretty sure that's right, besides i want it to work on the truck even when i dont have the trailer.

when i do end up putting in the switch i might reference those schematics in that article. that's a pretty good mod, not really on the priority list right now, but some day.

kenworth had some good switches which the guy at the counter "thought" would do what i needed, didn't have my multimeter to check. even if they did the job, they were a little pricey. i work part time at sears auto center, and one of the wheel balancers had to get a switch replaced because the plastic mounting part of the body broke. cant beat free. it's a push button, not toggle. it can be wired in normally closed or open and will go to the opposite when pushed and springs back to normal position. it will work for now. only took about 30-45 minutes to wire it in. works great. haven't figured how to mount it yet, the body was designed for special application and is now broken anyway. right now i just have it held in place with the wires. it's actually pretty solid, looks a little shade treeish, but my truck's not up for any show prizes anyway.

oh, if anyone is interested. pull the dash cover. unmount the master light switch. on the larger of the two plugs, the wire you want is the thicker gauge brown wire right in the center of the plug. to remove it, go to the actual connection side of the plug. you will see all the metal connectors in the plug with tiny little plastic retainer tabs in the holes. insert a small pick and move the tab away from the metal and it pulls right out. i cut the wire about two inches away from the end. spliced in new wires to the cutout switch and reassembled everything. basically detoured the circuit from out of the plug that goes into the light switch down to the interupt switch and then back up the wire in the harness

Congrats I am glad it worked out for you. When you push it does it only cancel the running lights and not the headlights?

Next switch is to add one that turns on the running lights momentary for use in the day time???????? Just a thought
