WASHER/DRYER Stacks - a Precaution....
I have seen at least ONE that was installed with nothing at all to hold the top of it steady to prevent tipping. The result was predictable.
You don't slam on brakes (hopefully) hard enough to crash a W/D stack through the wall of the enclosure it is in. You won't accelerate hard enough to slam it on the back wall of the enclosure. It might beat the crap out of it anyway, but that isn't the worst that can happen.
SIDE-TO-SIDE sway can cause it to slam right out of the door(s) of the space it is in, and may (typically) result in it whacking the counter top of your lavvy when it finally comes to rest. God forbid it makes a beeline for a glass shower enclosure...
Empty, they weigh something like four to six hundred pounds.
More than likely it will end up with some custom bends in the sheet metal that present problems in standing it back upright. There is usually only an eighth of an inch clearance on each side of the door frame.
The top of the stack MUST be secured somehow in order to keep it from moving around.
At around fourteen hundred bucks a pop, you don't want it to go for a walk while you are driving, trust me.
If you are having one of these installed: DON'T LEAVE THE LOT unless it has solid support to keep the top of it from moving around!

Thank heavens my travel trailer is to small for a WD. Otherwise my wife would want one.
That being said, ahh yes people will brake hard enough, and accelerate hard enough to tip one over.
I will keep this in minde the next time I pass a motor coach. Nothing worse, than trying to avoid a stacked washer and dryer, that just exited out of the side of said motor coach.

WOW Greywolf. Not something I want to happen to my 5er. I will be purchasing a stacked W/D real soon and will secure it good. I had a comboniation unit in my Alfa that was not secured and did not notice any movement (it was in there really tight though) but it did not have the center of gravity problem that a stacker has. Thanks for the information, I will make good use of it.

In the best of all worlds - a shelf can be installed above a stack like that to tie in the top of the stack to three walls. Even if those walls are only a quarter inch thick with no framework behind them.
It's difficult, but can be done. And then you have a place above it for storing boxes of drier sheets.
