factory 534 jetting
I have a 1972 534.I replaced the factory holley with a new edelbrock.I replaced it because the holley needed rebuilt and I couldn't find anyone who wanted to rebuild it.Everyone said the same thing "those things have a bunch of o-rings and springs and wierd gaskets and they always leak even when they are new"So I put an edelbrock on it.It's the same cfm as the holley(600 i'm pretty sure)But I don't think i'ts jetted quite right. Can anyone tell me what the factory holley jetting was and how can I convert that to edelbrock jetting (they use metering rods instead of jets)Any info would be a great help Thanks!

The stock jets are 45 primary and 61 secondary. Get the idle adjusted where it runs good and do a (plug chop) by running it at speed on the primarys and shut it down as quickly as possible and check a plug and it should be a golden yellow. If its too white you need to fatten it up or of its to dark lean it out and that can be done by the needles or springs or the jets. Work on the secondarys after that and get it where there is no hesitation when opening them. I am going to do the same on my Fire truck as I have gone through the carb enough to know everything I didn't want to know.

I have a 63 c1000 Towers firetruck with a 55' snorkel lift and a 534 motor. Had trouble with the carb, had it rebuilt once and still have trouble with it. I am looking at doing a throttle body injection conversion. Anybody out there ever do this with a 534? Also looking for a manual for the 534 if anyone knows where i can get one - looked all over and no joy.

I after 3 rebuilds finally got a Carter carb to install but found the problem with the junky Holley. A person that rebuilt it last put the jets in backwards. The primary jets were in the secondarys and so forth with the secondarys in the primary slots causing a rich mixture off idle. Holly does make a Projection unit ether 2 or 4 barrel and you just have to set up the fueling program and it will run good. Pretty spendy tho.
