xjvince,
I'd treat it the same was as replacing the fuel filter...fill the filter (either with a spare jug of Diesel Kleen or fresh diesel) up through the outside holes, spin it on and let 'er rip.

With an empty tank, you may want to unplug the FSS so you can crank & bleed at the schrader valve too. I did not need to do that when I replaced my filter, but my tanks had fuel in them too.

I agree. I don't think it's absolutely necessary to unhook the solenoid, but bleeding at the schrader valve will help a lot.

One very important thing is to not crank the starter for more than 20 seconds without waiting at least 2 minutes in between. You can burn out a starter faster than you can drain good, fully charged batteries.

With a manual tranny a tow strap works nicely to start it.

Probably second gear about 10 MPH, just do not overspeed the engine.

No need to kill the batteries or the starter.

thanks for the input guys. will the lift pump pull the fuel from the tank after being ran out, just like a gasser?? I would think so. and what/where is the FSS??

unfortunately my budget keeps both my tanks closer to E than I like and I live and work 25 mi from the closest Diesel pump!

Costs no more to keep it at E than at F........ FSS is the fuel shutoff solenoid on the IP.... injection pump. Front drivers side connector.....

yes I agree, and I always fill it. I just cant afford to do it as often as I would like and it often requires a special trip an hour out of my way.

Why not get a couple 45 gallon drums......... fill them and store them....... cost less now than in a few months most likely.

i'd think you want to be careful about storing fuel ... be sure to keep water from getting into the drum.. Had a local driller do that and got water into the fuel tank on the pump truck ... blew the injection pump to heck ... water wont compress like the fuel will.

not too bad a fix to just put an inline water filter on the pump handle, unless you use gravity flow to siphon from surplus drums. along those lines, will sta-bil work to keep diesel fresh(er) and keep the water from condensing in the containers?????
