Climate Seat on Lincoln Aviator Borke - Pass Side Only

Hi all,

Glad to be part of the forum.. First time post here...

I have an 03 Lincoln Aviator...

Noticed the other day that the heated/ac passenger side seat is not working all of a sudden...

Odd thing is the 1-5 dial lights up... But, the red/blue heat/air switch does not light up nor does it activate the seat...

Driver side works completely fine...

Logic troubleshooting I have done so far:

1) I have not physically checked the fuses but assume it is not the fuse(s) since they control driver AND passenger side...

2) I disessmbled the passenger side climate control switches and made sure contacts were clean and "stretched" the spring-loaded elctrical tab a little to ensure good contact...

3) I know when I bought the vehicle they put a new moduel in and I am pretty sure they said that it controls the passenger AND driver side...

No luck so far...

So, I assume it is either the actual switch or the unit in the seat...

Questions:

If it was a faulty unit in the actual seat, wouldn't the control lights light up still??? Or, are they not lighting up because they "know" the seat unit is dead???

Are the non-functional control lights a good assumption that the control switch is bad??? Or, is that just how they "work"???

Just wondering if anyone more exerpeinced in this area can tell me a good way to trouble shoot this before wasting a lot of money...

There is a seperate control modules for the passenger as well as the driver's side.

You are correct, there is a fuse that is hot all the time that feeds both sides(fuse 31 in the fuse box under the hood) and a fuse that is hot with the key on that feeds both sides(fuse #10 in the fuse box under the dash).

The illumination for the controls is a seperate feed.

From what I can see, the module is the heart of the system. You have the two power feeds going into the module, as well as the switch controls and the heating elements, etc. located inside the seat. The module takes the signals from the control switch, and sends power to the proper element in the seat in proportion to the temp setting and selection from the switch.

I might try buying a new switch and see if that is it...

If not, I guess I could return the switch and then get it repaired...

Luckily, I have an extended warranty (certified vehicle) so it will only cost me $100 out of pocket...

We'll see...

Well, if it's not hard to get out, maybe it will swap with the other seat? Then you could see if the problem moved?

That is an AWESOME idea... I feel dumb for not thinking about that to begin with...

I will just flip-flop the switches and see if it works or not...

Ugh, now I just have to wait till my wife gets back into town with the Aviator...

Well, I went to try using the driver side switch on the passenger side to further troubleshoot...

Unfortunately, it will not fit...

The switches are the same and the plugs seem to be the same, but one plug has a notch on the left and one has a notch in the middle... So, they cannot be swiched around...

Too, bad... Looks like I am going to have to take it to the dealer...
