Brake and turn signal lights not working

Have 1997 350 Power Stroke. Today ABS light came on and then noticed my turn signals and then brake lights not working. Had a new turn signal flasher and fuse with no luck. Is this a turn signal problem?

Could be a bad B.O.O. (Brake on/off) switch. It's located on the brake pedal.

Could be a grounding issue...

Check your backup lights, standard lights and license plate light. If those are working, ground is okay.

Could also be a wiring break on just those wires. Hard to see with the protection they get, but could be. Check the wire loom from the back up to the cab for a break by a rock, etc.

Took truck into the mechanic with the additional problem of shifting in and out of overdrive. Don't know if you have ever heard of this but it turned out the hazard flasher switch was out. Noticed all my problems after having truck washed and they turn the flashers on to notify the cleaners I was having a super clean! Guess at that time it was not working but the button stayed in down position, thus all problems began. So, now everything is working properly. Didn't have the flasher fixed for mechanic said the entire dash would have to come out and I have never used it in ten years. He advised to leave it alone. So, that took care of the ABS light, signal lights, brake lights and also the trans problem to boot. He did tell us too that unhooking the battery for a few minutes will reset everything instead of taking fuses out and back in. So, thanks for helping and hope this helps the next one too.

I do know that on one of my Rangers, I thought I had a hazard flasher problem...it turned out I wasn't depressing the button fully for the switch to engage. There was some gunk around the switch...a little WD 40 and it was back to normal.

Thanks for that info. Will try that too. Amazing how one button can cause such havoc for most don't know what all they can cause.

My 1995 F-150 had this problem where the wipers could not be turned off after you drove through a hard rain.

I never did find that problem.....LOL
