Speed Week and Hot August Nights

Speed Week and Hot August Nights
Are we going to do anything as a chapter for Hot August Nights (August 3-12) and or SpeedWeek (August 11-17)?
I will be at SpeedWeek, and will be meeting guys from the Nevada Chapter, and one other Chapter. I doubt I can afford to attend both events.
If there is an interest in attending Hot August Nights (www.hotaugustnights.net) we need to do some planning.

Oh yes, I try to go every year. I love it !!! I go to the swamp meets, shows/concerts, gamble, show and shines ... It's a blast. I'd love to hook up with some of you guys.
Problem is normally people are working during that week. I always try to take it off.
This year I'm looking for F100 parts. ;-)
Last year we took Motorhome and the '67 Camaro. This year it would be nice to take a nice truck to cruise and the Motorhome.
I'm game..... as long as I'm not on a project.
I can at least make a weekend trip out of it.
You do have to plan "at least 3 months out" to get a good room or camping spot.
So your right there. Plans should be made in the next week or two.
BTW- I think this is the eighteenth annual HAN Meet Aug 5-12 this year.

I'd like to go 8th-12th or 13th. It would be nice if we could get a corral at Atlantis.
I know a lot of people show up on the 3rd etc.. and I have done that. But, the crowd AND all of the good cars show up mid week through the end of the week. I like to stay to the last minute and see everyone leave. Then, I gamble or go to Tahoe for the day after and cruise home.

It is in Wendover, at the far eastern edge of Nevada. You can find a lot about it online, including some pictures of last year's event on my website.
It is not a show, it is about 300 entrants trying to break the Land Speed record on Bonneville Salt Flats. It is put on by the Southern California Timing Association, who do the timing.

I've never been to H.A.N. although I've always wanted to. From what I've heard, it sounds like it gets a bit crowded for my taste. I'll have to do it someday though. Just hard for me to plan something like that this far ahead.
I wouldn't mind going to Speedweek too, although I have some salt from the salt flats so I guess I don't really need to go...
Actually, that's been on my "To do" list for years. I used to have a buddy over in Ukiah who's wife held the record for Women's 4-cylinder 2000cc class in a Volvo Amazon. Always wanted to go over there with them, just never got around to it.
If you haven't seen it, you might want to check out the film "World's Fastest Indian". Great flick, and lots of salt flats footage.

There is a Nevada FTE member who I will be joining - we had hoped to do an entry with a 53 Ford pickup, powered by a flathead. That deal fell through - no engine - but I will be joining him anyway. We both have camp trailers. There is also 3 other members from New Mexico that will be joining us. They intend to come in a Caddy-fired 48 Ford pickup, and camp out in tents.
One other guy is thinking of going - he would bring a 32 deuce coup pulling one of those vintage teardrop trailers.
I wish more California members would join us - motor homes, any sort of trailer, or even a tent works fine. You can even stay in a Motel or Casino, but that gets expensive fast. However, it is for sure a place for gearheads, but kids and wives may not enjoy it as much.

Didn't know you had a darkside - I always wanted to make a 56 wagon into a Ranchero, even now I would like to add the taillights and fin off a 55 or 56 ford car to the side of a fleetside box.
The auction is too rich for me, but I didn't know about the swap meet. When and where is it?

Things are begining to warm up and I don't mean the tempurature for both HAN and Speedweek. I'll have to plan my camping spot. Where are you guys staying?
Looking good. Now, if the stars align for me I'll make it again this year.
It not too crowded with 4-5 Venues now. Plus last year it was lighter showing because of gas prices. I think that might hold true again this year.
However, even with that there's over 3000 hot cars out there during any days showing at the different venues.
Don't forget to bring your credit card. Summit Racing give 10-15% discounts on all items that week that you pick up at their warehouse outside of Reno.

You will - I love to sit at the start line under the shade of my endgate. If we get enough people to attend I'll put up a FTE sign - please do check in!
We will be camped at the "bend in the road."
Check out www.old-fords.com for pictures of last year.
