well with ford i have noticed that they use on wiring harness for the truck or auto. and it is the same on all of the same model other words your ranger has the same harness of all makes of rangers. so it may be a plug that goes to another feature on another model. look and see if it is dirty if so then it was pluged to nothing if it is clean then it was pluged to something the other plug in will be in reach of the plug. i have found out from working on these darn things and studing wiring digrams that ford does this to keep from having 30 wiring harness to just one harness.

Well, we cleaned it, and plugged it back together, and now there is a noticable difference in the brake pedal. Also, you can hear something engaging under the hood when you press the pedal. We're pretty sure now that it was in fact something with the ABS system.

They sure do. I don't know why this thing was unplugged. Actually looked like it was done deliberately. The one end was actually tucked behind the box thing.

Maybe the abs light was on and they unplugged it to cut it off. IDK

That's a possibility. I haven't had any problems so far. Drove over 100 miles last night, and no light, so hopefully things will continue to go well.

Can't complain. Keep your fingers crossed for me....91 miles since last computer reset and no CE light.
