my first motor vehicle (a Whizzer motorbike), gas cost me nothing. I would go to certain stations (they knew me) and drain out the residual in each hose into the one gallon tank. Ocassionally I would spend the cash for a dime or a quarters worth. If gas reaches $5.00, I'm going to look for another Whizzer.

I remember the Whizzer!!!!!
When I was just 13, a guy up the street got one, in pieces, in a bushel basket.
Bigun72,
Congrats on the license. Say goodbye to cash. Put a $20 tucked away in your wallet and forget about it. (Emergency fund!)
Got my license in 1971. Gas around here was 22.9˘ at the time.
I've seen gas for 1.9˘, (yes. . . a Penny dot nine cents!) in Greeneville, TN, in January of 1972.
We were on the way back to Maryland, from my grand-mother's funeral. Dad had just filled up at an Esso station in town, where he used to do business, when we lived there. Gas at that station was 14.9˘.
As we went through town, Dad noticed that gas prices were getting lower, and lower, and lower.
The last gas station in town was a Sinclair. (Do you older guys remember the dinosaur!?!?!? It was called 'Dino' wasn't it???)
Anyway. . . . Dad says (quite loudly), "Dad burn it. Just my luck. I gas up, then drive right through a dad-burned gas war!!!"
Dad was driving a 1967 Pontiac Catalina (2+2), with (I think) a 26 gallon gas tank. (At 14.9˘ per gallon, if he had put 20 gallons of gas in the car, that would've been $2.98 for gas!)
I sure miss those days.
Yeah, but back in those days if your dad had gone around the block four times he would have to fill it up again!

You may laugh your butt off on this but i'm having fun. I live on an island (Alamerda) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2 miles in size and run around with a gas scooter, hell I went to work 3 1/2 miles away for 4 years weather permitting leaving the CS at home. I've been as far as 25 miles from home on little trips with it, ride it 8 miles daily working on a rental and errands. With 9 garage queen motorcycles stored away this scooter is handy around town since 1999 and never a problem with the cops, they all know me. Now at 30% overdrive with the 5mm toothed belt drive 39-41 mph is top speed. Going on 47 gallons fuel burned the last 7 years, saves the truck motor from condensation and wear.
The "Big Wheel" has 145/70/6 wheels, 14 1/2" diameter, seat for a lazy cruise speed 21-22 mph without having the motor rpm's cranked up. By law it should be 15 mph maximum, obey traffic laws like a bicyclist.
Years later the Cobra Commuter came out which is another fun scooter to ride. http://www.joyceinternational.com/in...c/bigwheel.gif http://www.earthscooters.com/cobracommuter.html
