Cup Holder Replacement

The cup holder in my 99 F350 PSD is broken. Are cupholders for the 99-03 7.3L years interchangable?? Are the gassers the same inside, too?? Could I replace my 1999 holder with a 2003 holder?? Heading to the big salvage lot to see what I can find and wanted to know what years I might be able to get one from. Thanks!!!

One side of mine is broken in my 03. Will price it at dealer but I know I will not to pay their price. I'm going to try and fix it myself.

I believe they are all the same. Of course I'm sure you will bring the old one with you to compare before purchasing.

Hey Guys, my understanding is yes, they do interchange with each other. 99-03 indash cup holders.

The 99 cup throwers with those floppy "ears" to hold the drink are junk. The good cup holders from the 00+ trucks are an easy bolt in. Salvage yard part is a good idea as the thing is ~$200 from Ford.

The ones in my 99 are in great shape, but I'll look at the newer ones when I get a chance - my problem is that Northern Colorado has just about DIDDLEY for salvage yards... and then BOY OH BOY are they proud of what they've got!! sometimes it's almost worth just buying new when you factor in the time and fuel costs - example - I just got BRAND NEW heated telescoping power towing mirrors for $350 - the salvage yard wanted to sell me used ones for $300!!! thanks, i'll pay an extra $50 for NEW and save the 2+ hours and near-100mile roundtrip!! sometimes I really miss good ol' Baltimore....

Now THAT'S a cup holder!!!

OK...here's the scoop on the cup holders.

Went to the Ford stealership and asked about replacing the cup holder. They wanted $145 for a new one. The guy told me that they get an order for one of these weekly and that he doubted I would find one at the junk yards, since they are in such high demand.

Headed for the junk yard. They had two of the newer model ones in a couple of junkers newer than mine. Of course, they were both filty dirty, but fullly functional. I said, "I'LL TAKE IT!!!!" I got just the cup holder assembly, and NOT the metal bracket that holds it inside the dash. Cost me $16.50. It has the gray colored front and my dash is tan, but, hey, it works and I can paint it if I decide I want it tan. But, the two tone looks kinda cool.

Took it home and cleaned it up, wiped on some Armorall and it looks and works great. Old one is on the left in photo.

Went out to put it in the dash and found that a piece on the back end of the newer version was hitting the back of the metal bracket. Which means that, NO, the two cup holder types are NOT directly interchangable. So, if you get one from the junk yard be sure to get the metal support bracket that screws into the dash with it!!!

It wouldn't slide all the way into the dash, as you can see in the next photo.

So I decided to take the bracket out and see what I could do. I cut a hole out of the back end of the metal bracket to allow the protruding piece on the new holder to go through. Did the trick.

Now it slides all the way in and works great!!!

Can even carry my huge Bubby Keg coffee cup very securely!!! No cup holder in my other vehicles that can do that. So I'm very happy!!

Nice Job!! Thanks for posting. I worked for Ford for 3-years and the parts guys told me that they were direct replacements for our trucks. Great Job!! I thinks I would paint it though. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the pics!! I've only had my '99 for 6-months but someone obviously swapped over to the newer cupholder for me!!! WHOO-HOO!!

I like to call it my "cup thrower" because it does a better job of sending my drinks airborne than holding them down.

I'll be looking at getting a replacement cup holder if I get the chance. I'll be doing that BEFORE I replace my carpet.

I called for the parts I wanted of that wrecked/salvage Super Duty but he didn't have what I needed. Maybe he'll have a cupholder for you. Mine's already got the new version and I hold 32oz cups with NO problem. It's a sweet setup!

I didn't think the '99's came with the newer style cupholders. Mine's a '99 and has the floppy doggy ear version.

Hey Smokin yeah you are right the don't. But you can retrofit the knew ones from the 02's into our 99's. It seems that you just need to do some trimming on the backside, and slip-it in to position. Very Cool.. Take Care..Country
