460 power

Hello! I have a 1981 F250 with the 460 in it, and it's bone stock. Just trying to find the best place to start for modding the truck for some extra power. Just easy stuff. Please?

Can always run an aftermarket intake manifold/carb/heads combo and run a retrofit roller camshaft.

I had a 460 that I was to put in my daily driver but couldnt find 460 engine mounts at the time so sold it. But it had a basic 600 cfm 4bbl carb, trickflow heads, high rise intake manifold dual plane and a street/strip comp cam retrofit camshaft (roller) Dynoed out at 500 hp @ 5800 rpm.

If you want something easy you can always keep the stock topend and just spice the engine up with the retrofit roller camshaft kit. Comes with everything to change your factory heads over to work with the roller setup. You should easily see more power and reliability out of the engine then.

Do they make kits at all for this truck to convert it over to EFI though? I know a lot can be dont with carbs and carb tuning but I would feel a lot better if I an EFI set in the truck regardless of the cost.

you can get a universal efi kit. There was one company ill have to get the name but for $2000 you get the computer and everything and the computer learns the settings that works best and then saves them. Your also able to take and plug in your computer to your home computer by usb port and you can change settings manually.

damn, must be a hell of a set up! What companies actually make aftermarket air intake systems for this kind of truck? I didnt see many that indicated they worked on 460 motors at all.

You might have to use universal parts or fabricate custom parts up. I know a 460 is a 460, so a 460 efi system will bolt to a 460, the thing is that you might have to hook up your computer to the computer box and adjust it alittle. But I think theres a truck kit also from the same company.

The 460 forum can help with specific details for that engine. This is a generic forum.
