Probably beating a dead horse here, but, they really do need to offer a 4x4 with a standard on the new F150. And it needs to have the ZF 6....sorry, BOTH ZF sixes... it seems quite impossible to kill either one. even the auto.
Thoughts" Comments ? Rants? Dumb Sayings????

What seems to be the ossifer problem? I'm not as thunk as you drink I am...
I think it would be great to see a ZF 6spd Stick in the F-150. It would be awesome having the "L" creeper gear. Besides space concerns, is there really any reason why they can't offer this transmission in the 1/2 ton? I assume that the 3v 5.4 that they use in the Super duties is the same/has the same bell housing as the 5.4 in the F-150. Seems pretty straight forward....
Except of course there supposedly is not enough demand for a Manual transmission offering w/ the v8 or 4x4 packages.
I really wish the F-150's were just a lighter copy of the Super Duties: Solid axles, lockable hubs, manual transmission available with all engine options, etc.
All things aside, I am quite happy with my '06 F-150, I does feel a little too much like a car, but it will still pull a trailer like the older fords.
Makes a guy wonder why they never did come out with a 6 speed manual in the f150. I mean you will never get away from guys that love manuals, and like lxman said, the more gears the better.

Any manual trans would be good! Us Americans are soooo lazy!!! Did anyone see the American Choppers episode when they were in London? Hell, the minivan they were driving even had a manual, or it appeared to have one.
u's will hate me for saying this, but i like the cvt idea. (ahem-enclosed snowmobile clutch). it's an auto w/o all the torq converter/fluid and such. i imagine we'd might want to get used to the idea cause the new smaller cars (eg-nissan sentra) have the cvt and it's likely the future of auto tranny's. i like the cvt idea except for the boring sound of the engine constant rpm w/o going thru the gears. but if we get used to it, it might be ok. anyone imagine jumping on a kickass polaris and shifting a 6spd manual? most quads have snomobile clutches now ('xept sportquads obviously) and who would go back to a 5spd auto clutch? just my 0.02
I don't care much for CVTs. Everything I have read says they get "manual like" economy, but still not as good as a manual. So it sounds like the manual is still the best way to go. Unfortunately I am in the minority, since very few vehicles are available with manual tranmissions these days.
i'm sure they could make a good cvt, with a clutch-lock that locks it into a steady speed gear with the cruise on. i kinda guessed the cvt idea wouldn't impress many p/u folks. but i like it
Actually a CVT makes the most sense. Think about it, the engine is NEVER out of it's power band. You'd have full torque to move a load right as soon as you hit the gas. I think the CVT is a great idea for a truck. The problem is that they are having strength issue with them..

No, strength is not an issue, combine durability with weight is the issue. If weight wasn't an issue in vehicles, then we would have it right now. Look at the tractors, John Deere, JCB, Fendt, Valtra, Agco, MF, etc etc wouldn't all have CVT's in tractors right now if they couldn't make them heavy duty enough. Besides in a comparable tractor, CVT's double fuel economy.
