I don't think I'll ever buy an F150 earlier than a 96, I would, though, definatly buy a superduty. To me, the superduty's are like the trucks you used to get.
Everyone talks about not being able to get a choice, but with the superduty's you do. My uncle has one that I would love to have. 5 speed manual tranny, Manual transfer case, crank down windows, lock in hubs, straight axle front, and a 5.4 that has plenty enough power...even rubber floor mats! It has alot less options than my 88 bronco, and I would definatly trade him in a heartbeat (even though I don't think he would...) If I was going to buy a newer truck it would definatly be a superduty.
You can also get all the options (for you guys that like that stuff ). To me, it's the best all around truck you can get today.
people trucks get better over time, so does everything, just because it doesn't look beat up and doesn't look like it has been through the ages doesn't mean that its not a truck, i personaly love old trucks, i want to buy an old one and make it a mudder, but in no way will it be a better truck than the newer models, maybe more badass though
the 04 + F-150 is by far the best F-150 made by Ford, the 09+ F-150s will be better as well, get it through your heads
^^^^^Not the kinds of comments that people take to kindly too round these boards. Don't tell us to "get it through our heads"....that isnt the purpose of this site to try and belittle other members and that kind of comment will get you in trouble faster than you can shake a stick at it.
Im sure most of the people here cant wait to see what Ford comes out with in 09 and even the people who own old trucks will have to agree that it is nice to gawk and try to figure out how to get all of those goodies in our oldies lol.
No one said anything about it having to look beat to be a real truck....all we want is something that can get the job done no matter what it is...and be a dependable piece of equipment at the same time.
Long story short....nasty little comments like the one above dont belong here....but youll find that out quick enough on your own I guess.

I got to agree with 73f350sc.Nasty comments have no place in the forums.I do make occasional mistakes or say stupid things in my posts but I'm always very careful not to belittle or insult other users.

Folks, if you consider "get it through your heads" to be a nasty comment --- It no worse than the entire premise of this thread and the implication that "real men" drive only certain trucks.

thank you, seriously guys, am i in trouble?
i tried to get a point out, that the new trucks are as reliable or more reliable than the old, they just haven't been around long enough for poeple to see that like your old trucks have
ya and the "real man" title is quite stupid and im-mature
and again, how is that so nasty of a comment if you guys are "real men"
When I was growing up, my dad drove a pickup and my mom had a car. Once in awhile, Dad would drive the car, but Mom never drove the pickup. I thought all families did this. My grandparents did, all my aunts and uncles... pretty much everybody I knew. Every house had a pickup parked out front, and a car in the garage. Out here in farm country, that was the norm.
As I got older, I decided that I was definitely a "pickup man". My brother and a few of my male cousins found that they preferred a car, and I had no problem with that at all. Eventually, they all ended up with a truck in their lives. The first few trucks I drove belonged to my dad, of course. After I started picking my own rides, trucks were what I looked for first. The new shiny trucks always attracted me, of course, even when all I could afford were the older ones. My first truck was a '77 F250 HiBoy. When it came time to retire that one, I looked for another truck, with the thought that every time you got a "new" truck, it should be newer than the one you had. I've since come to abandon this thinking for the most part, really, because every succeeding truck I've bought has been a "good" truck for me. By "good", I mean it did what I needed of it, made me feel fairly safe driving it, did'nt "nickel & dime" me to death... things of that nature. I've generally thought of my trucks as being "masculine", to the point of giving them male names, mostly. The newest truck I've owned was a year old when I got it, and it was very well appointed. My current Bronco has leather seats, which I like very much. My rusty '88 F150 has a bench seat with a "saddle blanket" seat cover, which I like just as much as the Bronco's seats. I've owned a couple of cars, as well, which I bought because I liked them for one reason or another. I sold them because I decided that it did not make sense for me to keep them.
The point I'm trying to make is that even though all the trucks I've owned (and even the cars, really) had their good points when it came to dependability and work and comfort and appointments, none of them ever entered into any thought of my definition of what makes a man a man. I drive a pickup truck because it makes sense for me. My pickup is handy to haul and tow and to drive over rough ground with. My Bronco generally sees only "lighter duty", such as driving me to town on the weekends, but also gets used in winter time to get around in the snow and ice. I have had the priviledge of meeting men who drove cars exclusively, or brand new pickups that they never hauled anything beyond groceries in. I've met men who thought having a 4x4 truck was a needless extravagance. And I have met men who did'nt drive at all. To my way of thinking, the measure of a man goes beyond and far deeper than what the keys in his pocket will start.
My opinion. Not meant to offend anyone.

i am going to say one thing and ill drop it, having owned driven all kind of ford trucks and being in a dealer enviroment, sorry ill never replace my 1996 . its the best, reliable, easy to mod. not overly elctronic , you step into a 1997 or newer, too much electrical for a truck. and all teh axle hub problems with f150/250sd and f350sd and the diesel engine issues sorry , ill stick with my proven 1996

I agree, I'll prolly keep my 93 F250 Turbo Diesel, untill I die. They don't build um like they used to. It's got Great Bucket Seats, AC, Cruise, PW, PDL. That's all I need.
The new ones dent too easily.
I've actually had 2 guys stop me in parking lots in their 03+ SD's, offering to buy it. They said that they used to have one, and would like to get one to do heavy work with. Their $50K trucks were to valuble to worry about punishing them. The one guy showed me a huge dent in his box, and side rails. He said it just about brought him to tears, when it happened.

Well, thats thier fault for getting a Lariat instead of an XL or XLT work truck. Seriously, If you want a "work" truck than get an XL. Thats about the most basic truck you can get from any brand. Hell you can even get the windows you have to crank by hand
You wont see me in any leather clad chromed truck, so Ford here is what I want. No disrespect to those who like that, but its not my truck.
1. Real bumpers, not that flimsy plastic crap. Put hooks on em, and the ability to bump a tree or post or Toyota and not crumple.
2. Reduce the unneeded weight. Contradicts 1, but worth it. Make cabin heaters an option for the Knuks and Eskimos, I know it can get mighty cold in Labador. Make a 1/2 ton smaller not bigger. When gas hits $4-5 / gal this will make sense.
3. No vibrating heated cooled namby pamby seats, mirrors or other crap, plus see 2 above.
4. Everything that has fluid should have a drain and fill hole.
5. Brakes, ehh you got that right, nice job with your brakes.
6. Seats again, either bucket or bench no in between, 60/40 stinks.
7. Steering wheel, oh yea put the darn spokes at the 4 and 8 o-clock position, sheeh you had it right in the 80's den ya screwed it up.
8. A grommet to route your CB wire out the cab to the bed.
9. Enough power to get you there and back. If I want to tow a house I'll get a F2,3,450. I want reliable with plugs I can change. That is why I didn't get a Triton in the first place. 25 MPG Highway would be nice.
10. Selectable locker in the rear.
11. Wheew this is fun, I may just go to Fords web site and see how close I can get to this truck.
Found you the perfect truck today for only $800. a 1960 IH 3/4 ton. Ran good Straight tin. Needed new paint though.
Well boys & gurlz..... I may drive a "gurlie" truck, but I'll tell ya what....... I'll put it up against any stock, gas powered, small block Ford truck out there. I repeat...stock, like mine.
I've gone places I've never gone before, stood her on her nose while turning around on a skinny logging road while backing uphill and not spinning a tire, hauled some pretty heavy duty loads and trailered a huge Bobcat on a huge trailer meant for a 1 ton to tow, and plenty more. She'll idle ... I repeat...IDLE...up most hills in 4 low, never having to even think about touching the gas pedal.
She's comfortable, warm and what the devil are you talking about HARD seats? I've never had as comfortable a seat as in my baby.
Now... as for insults and name calling...someone mentioned that earlier.... nah... I won't even go there. All ya gotta do is rethink the term girly truck and the insinuation that driving one isn't "manly".
When you're 55 and in the physical shape I'm in, you'll look forward to creature comforts. And as for looks..... I totally fell in love with the design when it came out in 97. The rounded hood is nearly perfect for seeing over it, climbing and topping steep hills, whereas a square hood, you have to lean out the side window to see if you are still ON the road!
I've driven nearly every Ford half ton made, from 55 to 99. Gimme a break on this "manly schtuff".

If you all like older trucks better, that's fine...but don't try to say they're better than new trucks. I'll put my 05 250 up against any truck out there, in terms of abuse it will take....they don't dent easier than any older truck I've had....and it's built a hell of a lot stronger than older trucks. If old trucks can do more work, and are tougher, why is mine rated to haul more? I abuse mine on a daily basis, and after 87,000 miles it still rides like it did the day I bought...can't say the same for the older trucks I've had...
Old and new they all have their points.Good and bad.My trucks are old ones but a new one would be nice.I've driven a few and they are impressive but years of payments just to haul scrap and firewood doesn't make sense to me.Just my opinion.
