08 6.4

Anyone know how the 08 6.4 diesels are performing yet? I'm really interested in getting a new one but 6.0 was a disaster. My 03 7.3 has 275,000 miles and still going strong. So I am tentive to buy a new one.

Most owners seem happy except for the mileage. But more horsepower usually means lower mileage. My 02 only has 217,000 so I'm looking for the 2009 model. I don't want to wait until 2010 when they put even more emmission stuff on them.

I dont know how anyone could say the 6.0 was not a good engine they are great, and everyone knows it. the only reason ford stoped making them was the epa.

Tn mac, keep in mind that the only reason they STARTED producing them was because of the EPA as well. There may have been nothing wrong with your experiences with the 6.0, but for other people, that is very different.

STROKIN
i was just kidding mine is a hanger queen and many here dont like it when I bring it up that ford didnt take care of the 6.0 owners with problems. I find it hard to believe that ford will stand behind the 6.4, when the problems start poping up on the 6.4.

i wasnt trying to be ignorant, nor busting your *****. Just something to consider, there is always a second side. I found it funny that you said the only reason they stopped using the 6.0's was for emissions, and that is how those engines came about. If i had better luck with reliabilty with them i would want a 6.0 to modify, they sound outrageously awesome opened up, and quick! We have 3 6.0,s an 06 and two 07s, i drive them every day and so far one of them has been problem free, at 4700 miles now. Another one is actually a ford buyback replacement from an 04 6.0 we had that ford bought back. Problems with that too.

IT is funny to me also when you bring up reliablity here everyone says that is what the warranty is for. IT makes me wonder how many people are real posters and how many are paid by ford to post postive things about a engine everyone knows was a poor design.

Are you saying i am one of those? If so, i would have enough money from my posts that i could go out and buy a 6.0 and have it under warranty for it's lifetime.

You guys are being snapper heads. How many 6.0s are there out there running day in and day out in delivery vans, ambulances, pickups, bush trucks, RV puller ect. Why are you had mouthing a product that has been addressed. The 6.0 is made by International for Ford, there are 100,000's of them. IH puts em in everything. Its a good engine, it had growing pains in 03 and 04. Get over it. I would be surprised if the 6.4 didnt have some problems in the first 2 years. They are complicated high HP and Torque motors. Quality control after the first 100,000 off the line will be good. Atleast, I bet better than a Dmax or a Cummins. We and I drive fords because of the SD package. Full stop. If we wanted just a motor, buy a Cat or a Cummins, if we wanted a great Auto tranny....

I drive a Ford. See my signature. This is not a paid advertisement by Ford. It is a happy customer with the SD grin since January 2000!

RJZook, the 6.4 will be great, but maybe you should wait or get a late year 6.0 thats proven for the last 3 years and 500,000 vehicles to be a great heavy truck. If you think 6.0 were such a disaster, by a v10 or better still by a Dodge and then you can type lots about problems on their website.

Kick me off this forum for being a bad guy, but like another poster...

I am an A hole, I know it, you know it, so lets just agree and move on!

Good night.

Probably going to take a while since they havent been out much. I'm sure there are a few that put lots of miles on but myself I only have 1800 or so now. (No complaints from me)

Only thing I wish would quit is getting the living **** shocked outta me from the KR leather seats. lol

Why would you even imply such a thing? Conspiracy theories belong in the Non-Automotive Forum.
