Cam Shaft Reccomendation

Cam Shaft Reccomendation
Found a concave lifter and am gonna replace the cam and lifters. I am not looking to race this thing or do any kind of drastic up grades, just looking for some tips on a new cam, I want to keep the stock carb and manifolds just looking for a little extra pep and some increased torque. The engine has 3k on it and still is clean, its an 86 F150 2WD, with a C6 tranny l6 300. I am sure there are plenty out there who have done the same thing. I will go with either a Comp cam or Crane cam. The last one failed cause the builder left the valves loose and caused what looks like some cam bounce for the #6 cylinder anyway any tips will help. Thanks

Hey compaddict, Thanks for the thread. Very useful information. I had called crane and they reccomended a cam with 487 lift, I have a carb engine and wanted to keep it stock but pep it up a bit. Comp cams reccomended a 447 lift cam so I am going with the same one you used I believe its a 458 lift, the price is good and with lifters its all under $200. I see the post was back in Dec. How is it running now? have you had to make any other changes. The people at crane said to bring the timing back about 4-6 degrees. Currently have the head and manifolds at the machine shop, I will get them back tuesday next week, hope to have it running by next friday. Well thanks again for the thread.
