1997 Explorer 4.0L SOHC PCV valve location

OK, this is getting ridiculous. I have replaced PCV valves on numerous vehicles, I have read the postings on this site, and I have looked at the pictures of the location in my Ranger repair manual for a 4.0 engine (don't have an Explorer manual right now). This manual (and the guy at the auto parts store) BOTH say/show the PCV valve on the top of valve cover on the drivers side near the poser brake booster. Nope. Not this one. ONLY hose I see coming off a valve cover is on the PASSENGER side and goes directly out of a tube and into the air intake plenum just "downstream" of the MAF. No PCV valve there. The one they sold me at the store is a Purolator PV225.

Suggestions on where else to look? Or where the hose coming FROM the PCV valve terminates so I can trace it backwards even????

Thanks!

on my 98 sohc it's located on passenger side in the back you can't really see it only feel. follow the vacume hoses from upper intake they meet in the rear of engine and go into a tee.

Aha! That makes sense. Didn't spend any time on that side of the truck yesterday. Is it actually inserted into the valve cover, or somewhere else?

I have a 96 explorer 4.0 on the back of the valve cover on drivers side you will fina a 5 inch or so hose. Follow it down and there's your pcv hose. At the bottom of that you will find your pcv valve.

On the V6~4.0L~SOHC
PCV Valve is 1/4TurnTwistLockMounted in the backend of the Left ValveCover, next to the FireWall
with a VacuumTube+Hose assembly running around the engine backside
then forward along the right side of the IntakeManifold
into the right side of the intake behind the ThrottleBody.
PCV Valve may or may not have a CoolantLoopOxbow around it.
Carefull removing\inserting, plastic tabs in the ValveCover may break off. LeftLoosy\RightyTighty.
