For farmers who grow their own oil, What are you using to crush the seed and extract the oil? We grow some soybeans. Canola is not usualy grown around here (Kentucky), but the seed people can order it.
I have just started the learning phase on biodiesel. Eventual goal is to grow my own fuel if possable.

 

We won't crush our seed at this time...at least not yet. The size of an oil extractor we'd need to supply the farm is an expensive piece of equipment and is what kept us from growing and making our own BD from this year's crop. I'm hoping to see the local crushers work out deals with local farmers to crush for them in exchange for seed, but haven't of heard that happening yet.

Fab...do you crush your own?? I can't remember.

Thanks. In Farm Show Magezine they have a few articles about biodiesel. A man at flinthillsdiesel.com sells small oil presses. His website tells how to use it. A man in Canada sells them on EBAY.
We use about 800 gallons a year. We have neighbors who buy fuel 3000 gallons at a time. To justify a press we would need to sell the fuel and press cake to them. It says the press cake is a high protien calf fattener.
