Towing capacity?

Hi all. I just bought an '89 XLT fullsize Bronco but it didn't come with the manual & I don't know where to look for this info!
It has the 302 V8 & a towing package w/ class III hitch. What's the max this beast can pull?
Thanks!!!!
Carie

Towing capacity?

I don't have the info for an 89 but the 91 has a tow rating of 6800lbs. with the 3.55 axle and 7800 lbs with the 4.10. The GCWR is 10,000 and 11,000 accordingly. That is straight out of the 91 dealer tow guide. I wouldn't try that much with my 91, 302, auto, 3.55 tl's. I quit at 5000 lbs.

If you want to tow anything over 2000 lbs get electric trailer brakes for safety.

You first need to know what axle gearing your '89 302-powered Bronco has. My '90 XLT has factory 4.10:1 gears,a EFI302,and a AOD trans. According to the 1990 Ford Bronco Brochure ,Ford gave this combination a maximum trailer towing capacity of 7,800 lbs..The 1989 Bronco brochure lists the same rating. If you have 3.55:1 gears the rating is just under 7,000 lbs..You should buy a couple of Bronco brochures...they are fun to read. You can get some at places like Spring Carlilse, and online. As for a '89 owner's manual, ask your local Ford dealership's parts department.I bought one for a '96 Bronco. I think they got it from Helm Publishers. Hope this helps ya!
