setting up a dedicated tow vehicle
I am looking for help with ideas of a perfect Bronco as a tow vehicle,, I am starting with a 1988 with a 302, I have read an article on a brake upgrade using F-350 parts and it sounds good !what gears should I run if the boat and traler wt' is 5500 lbs.
and any/all suggestions will be welcome.
thanks Bo

First you need to find out what axle ratios your Bronco came with from the factory. Ford listed the EFI302/AOD/4.10:1 gearing combination as having a 7,800 lb. towing capacity. If your Bronco came with the 3.55:1 gears,it will have around a 6,800 lb. rating. If you have a 5-speed manual tranny-Ford didn't really supply true figures. Why? To save on warranty repairs to worn out clutches, and the like. You might try upgrading your exhaust system to add power for towing duty.A K&N air filter will also help your 302.If your Bronco came from the factory with a towing package,it should have an external oil cooler. If it doesn't,I'd suggest you buy an aftermarket one. Most auto parts stores should have(or can get) what you need. A HD frame-mounted hitch you'll need also. For extreme towing'I'd suggest the steeper 4.10:1 gearing...if your truck doesn't have them, already. You'll lose mpg,but it'll pull without fuss. Good luck.
