1977 thru 1979 351M ~ 400 valve seals

Ford sez: 1977/79 351M/400 ... (see below v v v for 351C valve seals)

16-D7AZ-6571-A .. Valve Seal ~ USE before Serial Number EE0,001

8-D7AZ-6571-A .. Valve Seal = Intake ONLY ~ USE after Serial Number EE0,001

8-D9OZ-6571-A .. Valve Seal = Exhaust ONLY ~ USE after Serial Number EE0,001

The serial number in this case refers to the VIN number's last 6 digits.

No Ford truck ever had a 351C engine.

>>>16-D0AZ-6571-A .. Valve Seals for a FORD PASSENGER CAR 351C 1970/73 <<<

Only the later 351M/400's engines (cars & trucks) have different seals.

When I asked for the seals I asked for a 351c in a '73 mustang and still got different part numbers for intake and exhaust.

That's because parts houses aren't Ford Motor Company, and sell whatever works. Ford Parts catalog shows one seal for intake/exhaust for 351C's..the part number is listed in above post. If you notice the 351M/400 seals, only the late engines use 2 types, the early engines don't. The p/n's I listed are the same for 351M/400 passenger cars, and will follow the same procedure...early and late.

kilog55,

The engine is smoking on the driver's side only. Plugs 7 and 8 are wet with oil. 8 more that 7 (way more, it is actually soaked). U got any ideas? I was told it could be the a broken ring or too much play on the valve stem. This are band new rebuilt heads with brass guides. The engine only has about 50 miles on it. It was working fine until the day I was gona get it inspected.

you could pull the heads off again and pull the springs again, and see if there is any movement in the valves. kind of a PITA but thats the only way to tell if it is the valve guides.

or do a leakdown on the compression check. i think you squirt some oil in the spark plug hole screw in the checker and watch it for loss of pressure but i have never done it so i may be wrong here
