have any novice diagnostic tips

I ve always just maintained a basic working knowledge of trobleshooting problems with my trucks. I dont understand these threads about pulling codes.I have a 94 150 with a 300 efi .how do i go about the "various computers".my truck like most of yours is my labor of love, however I can t afford to keep have the random mechanic explore the many possibilities. What sort of devices(s) should i pick up to get me being more pro active.I thank you for any advice you may have

A bunch of good manuals, is the place to start. As far as codes,a jumper wire is all you need and the manuals will tell you the rest. If you can get an original ford manual, go to ebay, it will go along way to answering your questions. There is only one computer you can look at. There are code readers you can buy, that make it easier to see the codes. You should have an OBD1 system and the readers are fairly cheap( $25) .
