Question Ford 460ci damper...which one.

With my 557ci rebuild ( Scat 557ci stroker kit ) I read in a article that I must not use a Fluiddamper, it states to use a ATI Damper,as a fluid damper can cause the 9000 series crankshaft to break, the one I have now came with my Externally balanced 460ci ( D9TE-AB block ) the only numbers I can find on it are on the rear, 6316 and 4RB6. I'm hoping some-one can tell me which one I have , what is a ATI Damper, Thanks Jamie.

ati is a damper manufacturer. did you get your rotating assembly internally or externally balanced? i wouldnt try to use the stock damper when you just redid everything... why let a 40 dollar part blow a 3000+ dollar shortblock? spend a little more on the ati damper and call it good

actually the damper shouldn't matter if the crank is internal or external (unless you shop guy is lazy and drilled on the damper) 429/460s use the same nuetral balance damper on both, the difference is the spacer behind it, the internal just has a round spacer, the external balanced has a hatchet weight.
And yes I have heard several guys lose scat 9000 series cranks with the fluid damper, go buy an ATI, or I have had good luck with proffessional products damper, and heard that the FRPP unit isn't a bad one either. I can tell you my 572 will be running an ATI, my current 528 has a proffesional products, my choice of you can afford it is the ATI

Hello monsterbaby, I just got off the phone to the performance shop where I purchased the Scat 557ci kit, he told me that he uses the Ford fluiddamper on his stroker engine ? I did mention to him that Scat state to use the ATI damper with the 9000 serie's crankshaft, Could you give me the ATI Damper part number along with the FRPP unit so that I can try and locate one down here in Australia, Thanks for your help. Jamie.

i've got a romac on mine.seems to be of good quality.an ati will use a 3 bolt chevy pulley, the romac uses a 4 bolt.if you have some good pulleys already, may want to steer clear of the ati.

Thanks Guys, I run a gilmore belt drive on my 460ci engine so 3 holed ATI damper will still work, hopefully I can find one down here. IF not I will have one shipped to me from the U-S, Thanks Monsterbaby for those part numbers... Jamie. Australia.
