Red face F250 4x2 VS. Lightning

Well, tonight on the way home from my softball game a lightning pulls up next to me and my 250, light goes green he gets on it, I spin for a bit pull him to about 60 and then he started pulling on me and upcoming traffic slowed us down. He was definitely going to get by me another 100 foot. What do these lightnings run? I have eaten a few mustangs, with no chance of them getting close to me. It was fun though even though I knew he would of edged me out.

Just an exhaust, intake and X-Cal2 tuned by DJ.

With just what you got I think your lucky you did that well. I think if you added a bottle of NOS though you could take him. As far as the spec's on the Lightning I cant remember.

i believe lightnings are easily in the 13's, but they can be modded just about as easy as our diesels.

I was a bit surprised him pulling me, I did not think they were faster than Mustangs. I am thinking of injectors a fuel system and a bigger turbo in the near future or should I just go with a NOS system? I know the NOS is a hell of alot cheaper..

If it was a later model lightning it is blown from the factory and are faster than mustangs. They can be nasty with just a tune and a blower pully swap.

I think the Gen 2 Lightnings came with 340 hp stock. With some mods it's very easy to make 450 to 500 RWHP.
I put a built Lightning motor in my truck and I'm running over 500RWHP and hitting it with a 100 shot of nitrous on top of that.
See sig for time. 11s coming soon!

For some reason I am thinking they came with about 365 hp (and most likely underated at that). A pulley, an exhaust and a chip can put them somewhere in the 5oo's. There are very streetable examples that are tunning well into the 600's and higher. In staying with it on the street, I am guessing several options, it was stock, it wasn't pushed hard, or the driver didn't know what he was doing. With only a little work, Lightnings can get downright mean......

For what it's worth.....I read an article about a 99 7.3L Auto CC 4x4 longbed SRW and the only mods were exhaust and intake. They installed a NOS kit and put the 150 shot in it, Needless to say they said that that setup could kill a stock Lightning, newer supercharged models. So I am guessing that it is possible to at least keep up with a lightning if you just had a Exhaust, intake, and a chip or tuner. I think they compared 1/4 times or 0-60 times IDK but the SuperDuty was #1. But then again it dont take much to make a Lightning kick a little more AZZ.....a Pully, and tuner will turn them into a sleeper.

My Nephew has one - and we've never gotten serious about pulling against each other yet, going to visit him next weekend and maybe we'll line up...
He was surprised by a 4x4 boosted launch in the Ex....

but I can tell u when that SC gets going,
that is one SWEET squeal coming outta that thing !!!!

He's done some work with pulley's, tuner, and new exhaust... but has major traction issues from stopped, even with the fatter tires he put on...

nice - nice truck though...

yep lightnings run in the mid to high 13's bone stock, as i've run a few at thdrag strip before, and i can keep up with them (82 f-150 flareside, 350hp 351W, i was running 4.10's, 4sp truck weighs 3600lbs) as i was running i think it was a 13.6ish, not sure as i lost the time slip and didn't care for the times at the time.

Wait until you start filling up that bottle. I have a 15# bottle with a 100HP shot. It lasts about 6 1/4 mile runs and costs $75 to fill up.

the 5.4 with the Eaton 3.8 L superchargers will get up and move. and id sujest building up the internals of your engine and not just taking the route of more boost or nitrous, it may seem cheap at first until you start to repeatedlly melt a piston, crack a block, burn up several valves, etc. not to mention filling nitrous bottles over and over can get pricey.
